General Mohamed Salah, Minister of Military Production, met Dr Yasmin Fouad, Minister of Environment, and General Hisham Ameen, Minister of Local Development. They reviewed the implementation status of the Abu Rawash waste-to-energy project in Giza and basic infrastructure for municipal solid-waste systems in several governorates.
Technical work and grid connection
Minister Mohamed Salah said the relevant authorities were committed to moving the project forward quickly, in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to improve citizens’ quality of life. The plant is designed to convert 1200 tons of waste per day into electricity and generate 30 megawatts per hour.
Specialists from the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy are assessing a connection to the industrial transformer station in Giza. Coordination is also under way to determine the cable route between Abu Rawash and Giza so that Renergy Group Partners, the company implementing the project, can complete the required drawings and technical work.
Five years of coordination
Dr Fouad praised five years of cooperation between the ministries towards an integrated waste-management system in Egypt. She emphasised the Abu Rawash project’s importance for environmental protection and sustainable development. General Hisham Ameen also confirmed his support, describing the project as unique in Egypt and an important part of the integrated municipal-waste system.
Attendees included Engineer Emil Helmy Elias, Deputy Chairman of the National Authority for Military Production, and senior ministry officials.
