South Sinai Governor reviews El-Tor renewable-energy project

The meeting covered the project’s expected 10,000 jobs, community consultation and plans for energy, irrigation, housing, healthcare and education in South Sinai.

In support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives, Egypt Vision 2030 and the state’s renewable-energy strategy, Major General Dr Khaled Mubarak, Governor of South Sinai, met representatives of Renergy Group Partners at his office in Sharm El-Sheikh. The governorate’s consultant and relevant officials also attended.

The meeting reviewed progress on the green-hydrogen and energy-production project planned for El-Tor, the capital of South Sinai.

Jobs and green development

The project is described as one of Egypt’s most significant clean-energy developments. It is expected to create approximately 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, support the green economy and reduce carbon emissions, strengthening South Sinai’s position as a strategic renewable-energy hub.

The Governor said the project would extend beyond clean-energy production to help create an integrated agricultural community. Plans include water for irrigation, modern Bedouin housing, a hospital and a school, with the aim of supporting sustainable development and improving services for residents.

Community dialogue

Major General Khaled Mubarak confirmed that consultation would continue so citizens, local residents and relevant authorities could discuss the project and contribute views and suggestions. The process is intended to strengthen transparency and improve outcomes for the local community.

The Governor also affirmed that South Sinai would provide support and facilities to accelerate implementation and maximise benefits for the governorate’s residents.
