On 25 January 2019, Red Sea Governor General Ahmed Abdullah and Dr Ezz EL-Din Abu Steit, Minister of Agriculture, opened the Hurghada Recycling Plant.
General Abdullah described it as the first plant in Egypt to use new recycling technology compatible with European standards. Its machinery was imported from the Netherlands and Germany and uses the latest European recycling technology.
Green Tech Egypt designed, built and delivered the factory, which is managed by the Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association (HEPCA). General Abdullah said the plant represented an important step for Hurghada and the environmental sector, with capacity to process 400 tons of municipal solid waste and employment for 62 people.
