General Mohamed Salah, Minister of Military Production, met Mr Robert Valk, Founder and CEO of Green Tech Egypt and Renergy Group Partners, and Mr Eslam Ramadan, the company’s manager, at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
Abu Rawash project
The meeting reviewed several development projects, including Egypt’s first municipal solid-waste-to-energy plant. The Renergy Group Partners consortium comprises the Ministry of Military Production, Green Tech Egypt and OAK Holdings.
The plant in Abu Rawash, Giza Governorate, is planned to process 1,200 tons of waste per day and generate 30 MW of electricity. It is intended to improve environmental health, strengthen climate security and support better living conditions.
Design and connection progress
Mr Robert Valk reported that the initial designs were complete, including architecture, boilers, turbines, electrical systems, and water and sewage infrastructure. The environmental-impact assessment had also been completed.
Giza Governorate had been asked to allocate approximately 500 m² of land for a power-distribution building that would connect the waste-to-energy plant to Giza Industrial Substation.
Commitments from the meeting
The Minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to monitoring delivery and supporting successful implementation. He highlighted government efforts to encourage environmental investment, address climate change and involve the private sector in waste management and other industries.
Mr Valk praised the coordination between the parties, the project’s expected environmental and economic benefits, Egypt’s diversification towards clean energy and the government’s private-sector approach.
Mr Mohamed Eid Bakr, media advisor to the Minister of State for Military Production, said the ministry aims to execute projects assigned to its companies efficiently, to international standards and on schedule, while cooperating with state entities to meet citizens’ needs.
