The 14th annual Dii Desert Energy Leadership Summit took place in Vienna from 15 to 16 October 2024. It brought together Dii Desert partners and energy-transition leaders to address major energy issues and help shape the future of clean energy.
Dii Desert focuses on accelerating renewable-energy and green-hydrogen initiatives in the MENA region and on cooperation between the region and Europe.
Renergy participation
Mr Robert Valk, CEO and Founder of Green Tech Egypt and Renergy Group Partners, and Project Director Mr Frans van Breugel attended alongside nearly 200 energy-transition leaders, including more than 30 CEOs and experts committed to global net-zero targets.
Summit agenda
Panel discussions covered carbon pricing, mandatory emissions-trading systems, voluntary offset programmes and the potential for an interconnected global trading framework. Liquid hydrogen’s growing role as an energy carrier was a central topic, with experts presenting a joint paper on its contribution to the energy transition.
Participants also discussed innovations across the energy value chain, including integrated green-power and hydrogen production, DC grids, liquid hydrogen, direct-air capture and energy-storage solutions. The agenda reflected the pace of change in sustainable energy and the cooperation required to meet targets for 2030 and 2050.
