Implementing the Prime Minister’s duties to lay the first brick for implementing projects to convert waste to electricity. The Minister of Environment, Dr Yasmine Fouad, said: ‘The project is the result of a long journey of partnerships and decisions that support investment in converting waste into electricity in collaboration with the private sector with a total investment of 120 million USD’. Whereas General Mohamed Salah, Minister of Military Production, noted ‘all stakeholders are keen to proceed quickly with the implementation of this important project that will contribute to improving the environmental, health and living conditions of citizens’.
The project is part of Egypt Vision 2030. The power plant will process 1200 tons/ day of household waste to generate 30 MW of electricity and is designed under the concept Design, Build, Own and Operate (DBOO) to ease the government financially. The plant will operate for 25 years, and then the ownership will be handed over to Giza Governorate. The Giza Governor, Ahmed Rashed Mustafa Atifi, mentioned that this project grants leadership to Giza Governorate in maximising the use of waste and reducing its accumulation.
The project was developed under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the other ministries. The consortium Renergy Group Partners LLC consists of a highly experienced alliance of the National Organization for Military Production (MOMP), Green Tech Egypt, and OAK Holding.
Mr Robert Valk, CEO of Renergy Group Partners, pointed out the economic and environmental benefits of the project, starting from 120 million USD in foreign investments carried out in the Abu Rawash industrial zone. Approximately 40% of the contracting work will be implemented by Egyptian companies, contributing to the localisation of a new industry in Egypt. Part of the equipment will be built in the Ministry of Military Production factories. Also, the power plant will accommodate Egyptian University students to do scientific research on converting waste into electricity. Moreover, the project will contribute to a cleaner environment for us and our future generations.

General Mohamed Salah, Minister of Military Production, welcomed Dr Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, at the headquarters of the General Office of the Ministry of Military Production to discuss the project of converting waste into electric energy in Abu Rawash, as well as several matters of joint cooperation between the two sides.
Minister Mohamed Salah indicated that this meeting comes in light of the implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and the continuous follow-up of the Prime Minister with the ministries concerned with the file of the new solid waste system. In this regard, the Minister of Military Production explained that the waste-to-energy project and moving to clean energy is one of the measures that contribute to preserving the environment and adapting to climate changes, in addition to the health benefits it brings to citizens, as well as its economic benefits to the state.
Minister Mohamed Salah explained that this important project is taking place within the framework of the protocol signed between the Ministries of Military Production, Local Development, and Environment, and the Giza Governorate for cooperation and coordination regarding the allocation of a plot of land in the Abu Rawash area in the Giza Governorate for the benefit of the project, which aims to convert waste into energy with a capacity of 1.200 tons/day to produce electricity estimated at 30 megawatts/hour, indicating that all parties are currently seeking to activate cooperation and implement this project as soon as possible. Renergy Group Partners will design, build, own and operate the project. The National Organization of Military Product (Ministry of Military Production) is part of the Renegy Group Partners LLC coalition with Green Tech Egypt and other partners.
Dr Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, appreciated the fruitful and serious cooperation between the two ministries in many joint files, emphasizing the importance of integration between institutions of different government bodies, as all are partners in one team that seeks to achieve comprehensive development. The Minister of the Environment reviewed the work done in numerous joint work files between the two ministries, including the supply of stations and monitoring devices for the national network for monitoring air pollutants of the ministry, explaining the steps which were taken in this regard by the Ministry of Military Production. Noting that the Ministry of Environment’s plan is intended to increase the number of these stations annually, explaining the importance of these stations, monitoring air quality and predicting pollutants, to improve air quality, environmental and health status by providing correct monitoring data for decision makers to take action necessary.
The Minister of Environment also reviewed with the Minister of Military Production some files, including the media advisor to the Minister of Military Production and the official spokesperson for the ministry, Mr Mohamed Eid Bakr, stated that this meeting comes within the framework of the work strategy of the Ministry of Military Production, which is cooperation with all institutions in the country to implement national projects whose main objective is to meet the needs of citizens, and Bakr indicated that it was agreed upon at the end of the meeting to form a working group from both sides to follow up on developments of joint cooperation. The meeting was attended by Eng. Emel Helmy Elias Awad, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Authority for Military Production and Managing Director, Eng. Mohamed Sherine Shehata, Supervisor of the Central Administration of the Minister’s Office, Eng. Rafik Rizk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Armored Vehicles Production and Repair Factory, and Eng. Mounir Helal, Head of the Technical Follow-up Sector of the Authority.
General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, held a meeting in the presence of Dr Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, General Mohamed Salah, Minister of Military Production, General Ahmed Rashid, Governor of Giza, and General Nasser Fawzy, Director of the National Center for State Land Use Planning, at the Ministry of Development headquarters in the presence of several leaders of the ministries and Giza Governorate.
The meeting witnessed a review of the latest developments related to establishing a power plant to treat municipal solid waste and convert it into electric energy in Abu Rawash. General Hisham Amna affirmed the Ministry’s keenness to coordinate with Giza Governorate to quickly complete the necessary licenses for the land on which the project will be built to ensure its success. After allocating the land, the Ministry of Local Development will follow up on all the project’s executive stages until the station’s operation. Especially with the directives of the President and his support for projects to convert waste to energy and the expansion of new and renewable energy projects to preserve the environment, pointing out that the project will represent a major shift in the field of dealing with municipal solid waste and within the framework of the new waste system. This new project will improve the state’s efforts in dealing with the daily generated waste in Giza Governorate instead of burying it in landfills.
For his part, Dr Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, stressed the interest of the Egyptian state in clean energy and the use of various sources, especially renewable energy in the energy field, in addition to the use of waste to produce electric energy, which serves two important goals to preserve the environment and open investment fields in the field of electric energy production and enhance that. The general strategy for energy, as well as the development of electricity transmission and distribution networks to receive these capacities resulting from the production of electricity from waste, in addition to encouraging the private sector to invest, whether in the field of energy production from renewable sources or the use of waste in the production of electricity.
For her part, Dr Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, confirmed the importance of projects to convert waste into electric energy, noting that there is great interest by the Egyptian state and the government headed by Dr Mostafa Madbouly to implement the program for converting waste into electric energy, which directed the necessity of accelerating the pace of implementing this type of important project. The Minister of the Environment stated that this project aims to create a healthy and clean environment, achieve an economic return, and produce usable electric energy, as these projects help reduce the amount of waste that is buried in landfills, provide land areas that are allocated for the establishment of landfills, and avoid accumulations inside Governorates that lead to environmental damage and emissions, pointing out a tariff has been approved for converting waste into energy, at a value of 140 piasters per kilowatt, following Electricity Feed Tariff Resolution No. 41 of 2019, in cooperation with the Ministries of Local Development, Electricity and Energy. And Dr Yasmine Fouad said that the way is open for private investors from all over the Arab Republic of Egypt to invest in this field. The first company has submitted the environmental impact assessment study for the project, which has been reviewed and approved.
For his part, General Mohamed Salah, Minister of Military Production, affirmed the keenness of the various ministries and concerned authorities to implement the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, regarding raising the efficiency of the municipal waste system, overcoming the problems of waste accumulation and safe disposal, and taking the necessary measures to preserve the environment through a new system for integrated waste management, praising the efforts and role of the Ministry of Local Development in coordinating with the rest of the participating parties in implementing the new system to speed up the implementation of its various programs according to the timeline, He also praised the role of all partners in the system, for cooperation in the field of establishing stations for converting municipal solid waste into electric energy, the plant will be established in Abu Rawash, Giza Governorate, on an area of 10-12 acres. Minister Mohamed Salah explained that this meeting comes in light of the follow-up to the implementation of the project to convert municipal solid waste into electric energy, explaining that the project aims to treat 1.200 tons/day of municipal solid waste to 30 megawatts/hour. Which works to achieve an economic return from the waste recycling process, stressing the ministry’s eagerness to transfer advanced technologies within its companies and units in various manufacturing fields. As well as to cooperate with national and international companies specialised in waste management in implementing this type of project, which will reduce imports and provide foreign currency to enhance the national economy. During the meeting, General Ahmed Rashid, Governor of Giza, presented all the efforts made by the governorate in coordination with the concerned ministries.

In addition to the MSW to energy processing solutions, we presented the HTP (High-Temperature Pyrolysis). This technology is the best way to process RDF, medical waste, agricultural waste, sewerage waste, industrial waste and tires to clean energy solutions. The high temperature allows a more thorough chemical breakdown of the feed reducing tars and improving yield and emissions.
Besides the WTE plant and the HTP technology, we also presented the project development of a 20GW green hydrogen plant in Egypt. Green Tech Egypt has been working on this multi-billion USD project for four years to accelerate the energy transition by building a large-scale green hydrogen plant.
We shared our booth with the STCE (Science and Technology Center of Excellence), the main research centre for the Ministry of Military Production. STCE is showcasing an innovative AWG (atmospheric water generator) of Mizuha, which originated from Japan. The machine condensates moisture from the air to obtain water. STCE and the MOMP signed an agreement with Mizuha to produce the devices in Egypt.

Mr Robert Valk expressed his eagerness to expedite the project, highlighting its potential to improve environmental and health conditions, reduce pollution, and create job opportunities. He emphasised the importance of overcoming any challenges to ensure timely implementation, noting that the project would bring advanced technology and industry to Egypt. This partnership between the public and private sectors aims to localise the production of waste management equipment within the Ministry of Military Production’s factories, including knowledge transfer in technology, operation, and maintenance.
Mr Mohamed Eid Bakr, media advisor to the Minister of Military Production, stated that the ministry’s collaboration with the private sector aims to transfer modern technologies and deepen local industrialization. Mr Emile Helmy Elias, Vice Chairman of the National Authority for Military Production, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
On the second day of the ‘Egypt Can with Industry’ conference, Renergy was represented by Mr Talal Ali Al Zain and Mr Gareth Brown from OAK Investments Bahrain, Mr Valk, Mr Eslam Ramadam, Ms de Graaf from Green Tech Egypt, and General Mr Mounir Helal, Dr Mahmout Arafat of the Ministry of Military Production (MOMP). Mr Valk had the honour to present a second session of the first Waste-to-Energy project at Giza, Abou Rawash, Egypt during the ‘Green Industry: Road to COP 27’ session to His Excellency Madam Nabila Makram, Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, and a delegation of industry leaders. Waste-to-Energy is a renewable energy source and is widely adopted across the world. In line with the Egypt Vision 2030 and COP 27, there is an urge to accelerate the energy transition and sustainable solid waste management development; Renergy Group Partners will establish the new Waste-to-Energy industry in Egypt in a PPP with the Ministry of MOMP.
This Waste-to-Energy project has numerous positive impacts: elimination of landfills with the devastating long term effects for the next generations, prevention of the emission of very harmful CH4 (Methane) by landfilling, preserving the desert and sea shore ecosystems, foreign investment, knowledge transfer, local production, high skilled jobs and converting the waste problem into and sustainable energy solution.
Renergy and the consortium partners developed a unique business model to meet the unbeatable level of efficiency needed to make the project sustainable for the coming 25 years, only running on the tariff of 1.4EGP/Kwh, without a gate fee. This will be the first project in the world running at this low tariff, with a high level of efficiency. The government will soon make money on waste management by this model, saving money on landfilling, saving future costs of cleaning and making money on the electricity tariff.
New developments, and spinoffs, are already developed in Egypt by this new project. Green Tech Egypt is building a patent-pending Flue Gas treatment system to meet the most strict BAT 2019 European Emission regulations, key for future development and meeting the COP 27 goals. The system will be 100% developed and built in Egypt.
With this new technology, the next step will be to easily capture the CO2 to use in agriculture or growing food by vertical farming or algae farming, an important step for food security in Egypt.
Mr Robert Valk, MSc – Founder and Managing Director of Green Tech Egypt and Renergy Group Partners – was invited to the ‘Egypt Can with Industry’ conference to present the establishment of the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) industry in Egypt. Renergy Group Partners consists of esteemed partners: the National Organisation of Military Production, Green Tech Egypt, OAK Holding, CMEC and WTEI.
On the first day, during the fourth dialogue session of the conference, Mr Valk presented the first phase out of three (3) WTE processing facilities across Egypt that Renergy Group Partners will DBOO (Design, Build, Own and Operate). Commencing the first phase in Abu Rawash, Giza district. Renergy collaborates with the Ministry of Local Development and Egyptian research and consultancy companies. The total investment in the first plant is $130 million (USD), with the total investment in all three plants being $500 million (USD).
The fourth dialogue session of the conference sessions began under the title “Partners of Success: Prospects for Industrial Investment in Egypt” with the participation of Ambassador Nabila Makram, Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Engineer Mohamed Ahmed Morsi, Minister of Military Production, and Engineer Yehia Zaki. President of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, Mr Walid Gamal El-Din, Vice-President of the Authority for Investment Affairs, and Deputy Mohamed Abou El-Enein, Undersecretary of the House of Representatives. In addition to the participation of Egyptian industry leaders, foreign delegations, and several Egyptian experts working abroad. Dr Tariq Abdel Raouf moderated the session.
Mr Valk pointed out that Egypt annually produces 25 million tons of solid waste, resulting in harmful environmental effects, especially carbon emissions. Green Tech Egypt and Renergy Group Partners will participate in the “COP27” climate change conference to represent local Green Industry leaders. Egypt will host COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh next November 6-18.

استقبل المهندس/ محمد أحمد مرسى وزير الدولة للإنتاج الحربى السيد/ روبرت فالك الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة جرين تك إيجيبت والسيد/ جاريث براون الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة أوك القابضة على رأس وفد من تحالف “Renergy Group Partners” لمناقشة الموقف التنفيذي لمشروع إقامة محطة لمعالجة المخلفات الصلبة البلدية وتحويلها إلى طاقة كهربائية بمنطقة أبو رواش بنطاق محافظة الجيزة، جاء ذلك بديوان عام وزارة الإنتاج الحربى.
أوضح وزير الدولة للإنتاج الحربي أن هذا اللقاء يأتي في إطار البروتوكول الرباعي الموقع بين وزارات الإنتاج الحربي والتنمية المحلية والبيئة ومحافظة الجيزة في شهر سبتمبر 2021 للتعاون والتنسيق بشأن تخصيص أرض بمنطقة أبو رواش بمحافظة الجيزة لصالح المشروع، وذلك تنفيذاً لتوجيهات السيد الرئيس/ عبد الفتاح السيسي رئيس الجمهورية والمتابعة المستمرة لرئيس مجلس الوزراء مع الوزارات المعنية لتحقيق أقصى إستفادة من منظومة المخلفات الصلبة الجديدة، مضيفاً أنه في ضوء التكليفات الرئاسية تم الموافقة على بدء تنفيذ المرحلة الأولى لمشروعات تحويل المخلفات إلى طاقة في عدد (8 ) محافظات كمرحلة أولى، وتم البدء بمحافظة الجيزة (أبو رواش) كأول محافظة يتم تنفيذ المنظومة بها.
وأكد الوزير “مرسي” على أن تنفيذ هذا المشروع يساهم بشكل كبير فى إيجاد حلول مستدامة وفورية فيما يتعلق بمعالجة المخلفات البلدية الصلبة من خلال تحويلها إلى طاقة نظيفة ومتجددة، لافتاً إلى سعى وزارة الإنتاج الحربى لتوظيف كافة الإمكانيات التصنيعية والتكنولوجية والبشرية المتوفرة لديها للمشاركة فى تنفيذ المشروعات القومية الكبرى التى تساهم فى تحسين وتطوير معيشة المواطن، لافتاً إلى أن الظروف الاستثنائية التي يمر بها العالم منذ عامين بسبب جائحة فيروس كورونا والسلالات المتحورة منه لا تزال مستمرة مما يزيد الترقب الدولي بشأن الأضرار المحتملة على الأنشطة الاقتصادية والأسواق المالية العالمية وسلاسل الإمداد الدولية التي لازالت لم تتعافى بشكل كامل من هذه الظروف الاستثنائية التي أثرت على جميع اقتصاديات العالم وجميع القطاعات الاقتصادية في آنٍ واحد، مضيفاً أن الدولة المصرية بالرغم من ذلك مستمرة في مساعيها نحو صون المكتسبات التي حققتها بفضل برنامج الإصلاح الاقتصادي الذي بدأ منذ عام 2016 وتولي اهتماماً كبيراً بالاستثمار في المشروعات القومية والتنموية في شتى القطاعات لتحقيق البناء والتنمية ورفع معدلات النمو الاقتصادي في شتى المجالات.
من جانبه شدد السيد/ روبرت فالك الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة “جرين تك إيجيبت” على أهمية تعزيز أوجه التعاون والتنسيق بين كل الجهات المعنية بتنفيذ المشروع بما يساهم في رفع مستوى الإعداد والتنفيذ لمنظومة المخلفات البلدية الصلبة بالمحافظات بالقدر الذى يساهم فى إحداث نقلة نوعية فى هذا الملف المهم، مضيفاً أن تنفيذ هذا المشروع يساهم في تحسين الأوضاع البيئية والصحية والمعيشية للمواطنين والحد من معدلات التلوث وإقامة صناعة وطنية لإدارة المخلفات، موضحاً أنه تم خلال شهر نوفمبر الماضي عقد جلسة تشاور عام للجهات المعنية بالمشروع حول الدراسات الخاصة بتقييم الأثر البيئي، مؤكداً على اهتمام تحالف “”Renergy Group Partners بتذليل أي تحديات قد تطرأ على تنفيذ المشروع.
من ناحيته أشاد السيد/ جاريث براون الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة “أوك القابضة” بحرص الحكومة المصرية على استقدام الخبرات والتكنولوجيات الخاصة بمصانع معالجة المخلفات وتحويلها إلى طاقة بالتعاون مع القطاع الخاص، مثنياً على دور وزارة الإنتاج الحربي في تنفيذ منظومة إدارة المخلفات البلدية الصلبة في ضوء خبرتها الممتدة في هذا المجال، مضيفاً أن تحالف Renergy Group Partners وبالتعاون مع الإنتاج الحربي سيقوم في إطار المشروع بتوفير التقنية المبتكرة لتنفيذ محطة معالجة تحويل المخلفات البلدية الصلبة لطاقة كهربائية بمحافظة الجيزة على الأرض المخصصة لهذا الغرض بما يتوافق مع الإشتراطات البيئية المعمول بها بجمهورية مصر العربية.

The protocol was signed by Eng Mohamed Salah, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Organization for Military Production and Managing Director, Eng Mohamed El-Sayed Abu Jaour, Local Development for Planning, Dr Tarek El-Araby, Head of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority at the Ministry of Environment, and Mr Shafiq Jalal Hassan, Head of the Public General Authority For Cleanness & Beautification from Giza Governorate.
Minister Morsi indicated that the signing of this protocol comes in implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic and the continuous follow-up of the Prime Minister with the relevant ministries to achieve maximum benefit from the new solid waste system, stressing that this protocol contributes significantly to finding sustainable and immediate solutions in the treatment of municipal solid waste. By converting it into energy, which comes within the framework of the Ministry of Military Production’s endeavour to employ all the industrial, technological and human capabilities available to it to participate in the implementation of major national projects that contribute to the development of the citizen’s livelihood within the framework of the (Decent Life) initiative, and on top of these projects is the waste disposal system Which aims to make the maximum use of the amount of waste generated daily, adding that the alliance of the “Ministry of Military Production and Renergy Group Partners” will, under this protocol, provide the innovative technology to implement a treatment plant for the transformation of municipal solid waste into electric power in Giza Governorate on the land designated for this purpose in accordance with the requirements environmental regulations in force in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
For his part, General Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Local Development, indicated that there is full coordination and cooperation between all ministries and relevant authorities regarding the preparation and implementation of the municipal solid waste system in the governorates to the extent that will lead to raising the level of the system in a way that citizens feel and in a way that contributes to a qualitative leap in This is an important file, and “Sharawy” emphasized on that the state is making great efforts in the framework of creating and introducing modern technology into the new system and expanding it. One of these technologies is converting waste into energy, eliminating large quantities of waste, especially in governorates where it is difficult to provide land for construction—processing and recycling plants.
Shaarawy stressed that the state is making efforts during the current stage to implement the integrated plan to develop the solid waste management system, in light of the directives of the political leadership and the Prime Minister’s assignments, because of the paramount importance that the state attaches to improving the environmental, health and living conditions of citizens, reducing pollution rates, as well as establishing A national industry to manage waste, develop the national economy, and provide new job opportunities.
General Mahmoud Shaarawy added that the implementation of the integrated waste management system is an inherent right of the ministry in coordination with the governorates and the Ministry of Environment. Accordingly, the Ministry of Local Development will coordinate with the Giza Governorate to provide the required plot of land within the geographical scope of the governorate and provide full support and coordination to the governorate with all government agencies to issue the necessary licenses. After the privatization, the ministry will also follow up on all the operational stages of the project until the commercial operation of the station and linking it to the electricity network.
For her part, Dr Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, confirmed that converting waste into energy is one of the mechanisms for treating and recycling waste within the infrastructure program in the new waste system, which depends on establishing waste recycling factories and converting it into organic fertilizer and alternative fuel, as Egypt has the experience in establishing and managing these factories. The Minister of Environment indicated that efforts are currently being sought to bring in expertise and technologies for waste-to-energy factories in cooperation with development partners and support Egyptian companies working in this field within the framework of the political leadership’s directives. Private incinerators without the need to separate them before incineration achieves several advantages, including the possibility of disposing of a large amount of waste at once.
Dr Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, explained that the tariff for electricity generated (from solid municipal waste, biogas extracted from safe sanitary landfills, sludge from sewage treatment plants) was issued through Cabinet Resolution No. 41 of 2019 to support partnership with the private sector. Regarding the treatment of waste and its transformation into energy, in addition, to set selection criteria for (8) Egyptian companies, in accordance with presidential mandates to focus on Egyptian companies to implement the first phase of projects for converting waste into energy, as it was agreed to start implementation in (8) governorates as a first stage out of (16) governorates, and we started in Giza governorate (Abu Rawash) as the first governorate in which the system is implemented.
General Ahmed Rashid, Governor of Giza, confirmed that the governorate would allocate the required plot of land in the Abu Rawash area as a usufruct for a compatible period of time to establish a treatment plant to convert waste into electrical energy. The governorate will coordinate with the Ministry of Local Development and the Ministry of Environment regarding the issuance of technical and legal controls regarding the allocation of land with Taking into account the required area and the distance between the site of the land and the nearest connection point with the medium voltage network, the extension paths of the electrical interconnection network, and the technical, environmental controls around the site of the treatment plant. Rashid added that the governorate would supply the quantities of solid waste according to the operating requirements, which will be in the range of 1200 tons/day. This will contribute to the safe disposal of solid waste and its recycling to maintain the environmental balance and reduce air pollution and continue efforts to activate the solid waste management system because of its great impact on citizens’ daily lives.
In turn, the media advisor to the Minister of Military Production and the official spokesman for the ministry, Mohammad Eid Bakr, stated that the Ministry of Military Production is constantly seeking to integrate with ministries, governorates, and various agencies in a way that supports comprehensive development strategies in the country, adding that the ministry is keen to transfer modern technologies in various fields of manufacturing within companies, and its affiliated units and cooperation with national and international companies specialized in the field of waste management in the implementation of these types of projects to deepen local manufacturing, increase value-added, reduce imports and provide foreign currency in a way that enhances the national economy, which is evident in the cooperation of “military production” with the two companies “Green Tech Egypt” and “Oak” in this field, stressing the ministry’s keenness that cooperation with its partners in various fields – including the field of waste recycling and its conversion into energy – is based on joint manufacturing and technology transfer.
Eng Mohamed Ahmed Morsi, Minister of Military Production, received Mr Robert Valk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Green Tech Egypt and his accompanying delegation at the Ministry’s General Office.
Minister Morsi indicated that this meeting comes intending to discuss the latest developments regarding the project to establish a plant to convert municipal solid waste into electrical energy in Abu Rawash area in Giza Governorate, and a proposal to contract with the concerned authorities to allocate the project land and purchase energy produced from the plant, stressing the efforts of the Ministry of Military Production to employ all the industrial, technological and human capabilities available to it to participate in the implementation of the municipal solid waste management system in cooperation with the various concerned authorities.
The Minister of Military Production stated that the ministry is keen to transfer modern technologies in the various fields of manufacturing within the companies and its affiliated units and to cooperate with national and international companies specialised in the field of waste management in implementing these types of projects to deepen local manufacturing, increase value-added, reduce import, and provide foreign currency in a way that enhances the national economy, emphasising the keenness of all parties involved in the system to implement it in an optimal manner that achieves the maximum benefit from the amount of waste generated daily and transforming waste in Egypt into smart energy solutions.
For his part, Mr Robert Valk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Green Tech Egypt, emphasised that the establishment of these plants will increase the added value of waste disposal and improve the environmental, health and living conditions of the Egyptian citizen, praising the great industrial, technological, technical, human and research capabilities of the military production companies. This paves the way for achieving fruitful cooperation.

Mr Robert Valk, Founder and CEO of Green Tech Egypt, discussed the executive steps and timeline for establishing waste-to-energy plants, noting that these plants will increase the added value of waste. He praised the extensive manufacturing, technological, technical, human, and research capabilities of the military production companies, which facilitate productive cooperation.
Mr Gareth Brown, Chairman of OAK Holdings, stated that his company will finance the joint-stock company responsible for establishing and operating waste-to-energy plants, in accordance with the cooperation protocol signed with the National Organization for Military Production, Green Tech Egypt, and OAK Holdings. He highlighted that this initiative will yield significant economic benefits for Egypt and contribute to sustainable development goals by generating electricity from solid municipal waste using modern technological methods.
